Artist Statement
The word “snake” often has connotations of negativity and fear attached to it. Are these misunderstandings, or warranted associations? In either case, what causes these conclusions? Is it personal experience, influences from popular culture, creation stories, myths or legends? Perhaps there is a biological factor that tells us to fear certain animals, or in this case, reptiles? My investigation of snakes roots itself in my childhood, and guides me to further research the interpretation and role of snakes in society.
